culinary arts foundation

Begin your journey toward a rewarding career in the food industry with Culinary Arts Foundations, a dynamic 15-week course that prepares students for immediate entry-level employment in professional kitchens. As the first step in Woodland Adult Education’s Culinary Arts pathway, this hands-on course introduces core cooking and baking techniques, industry safety standards, and real-world food service practices.

Students earn a Food Handler’s Card and participate in weekly cooking labs focused on recipe execution, time management, measurement accuracy, knife skills, and teamwork. Foundational food science is integrated throughout to explain the “why” behind ingredients and methods. A workplace readiness component builds essential soft skills in communication, professionalism, and collaboration.

As a final project, students apply what they've learned by planning and preparing a professional banquet to demonstrate their skills.
